I have a Visa card; do I need a PIN number?
Last Updated: 16 Mar 2016
Yes.
You will need to select a PIN to activate your card so that it can be used.
From 18 October 2014, PIN will replace signatures for purchases on Visa cards issued in New Zealand.
For contactless transactions that are over $80 you will need to use your PIN.
Some restaurants and cafes may continue to offer you the option to sign for your purchases, however for most purchases you will need to use your PIN.
