I'm a new customer. How easy is it to switch from my current bank?

Switching bank accounts might seem a bit overwhelming but it's never been more simple to switch to ASB! We take care of the move. If you decide to switch some or all of your banking to ASB, all you have to do is apply for your chosen account and let us know you'd like to make the switch. We'll work with your current bank to arrange a smooth transition.

What do I need to do before I can use the ASB ID app?

If you are new to ASB, you can use the ASB ID app to make joining ASB fast and easy.

Start by visiting our Join ASB page. Choose an account and complete the Join ASB form. The form asks you to choose a password for online banking. You'll need to remember this password to use later on. When we set up your account, we'll email you the details and include your online banking username.

For all other customers, you'll need an ASB login to use the ASB ID app. If you don't currently have one you can call 0800 FASTNET (0800 327 863).

To confirm your ID, you'll need:

  1. An iPhone with iOS 14 or later, or an NFC-capable Android 7 or later.
  2. A current e-passport from an eligible country, with an embedded electronic chip icon on the cover.
  3. The ASB ID app downloaded to your phone. You can find the app at the App Store or Google Play.

Then just open the app and follow the instructions.

To confirm your address (if required) you will need an original PDF which you received in the last 12 months, shows your name and home address, is one of these approved documents, and is smaller than 700KB.

I'm an existing ASB customer how do I apply for a new account?

If you're an existing ASB customer you can apply for a new account by:

  1. Logging in to FastNet Classic internet banking.
  2. Selecting the 'Open and apply' button on the accounts page.
  3. When the Open & apply page opens, selecting 'Open an account' in the 'Bank accounts' section.
  4. Following the instructions to apply.

Where is my nearest ASB branch or ATM machine?

Check the branch locator to find the ASB branch or ATM nearest to you, or if you are using the ASB Mobile app, you'll find a Branch and ATM Finder on the app under the main menu. If you have any questions, please call us on 0800 803 804.

Why do I need to verify my identity and address details?

Verifying your identity is required by New Zealand's Anti-Money-Laundering (AML) laws.

Our goal is to make this as easy as possible. You can use our ASB ID App on your mobile phone to verify your identity and address, or call us on 0800 803 804 to make an appointment at your nearest branch.

ASB ID app

If you're new to ASB, or we've asked for proof of ID, you can now use our ASB ID app. It reads your current eligible e-passport (or New Zealand driver licence if you don't have an e-passport), takes a scan of your face selfie-style, and could save you a trip to a branch.
