Applying for a business credit card

Here are some tips for getting your application ready.

Whatever the size of your business, whether you’re looking to earn rewards or require access to an online expense management system, an ASB business credit card might be the right solution for you.

Applying for a business credit card may require different information to be provided depending on your type of entity and what type of credit card you apply for. All credit card applications are subject to ASB’s lending criteria.

We’ll let you know the documents you require when you contact us.

Personal identification

Individuals who will operate a business credit card or the account will need to have their identity and address verified. We’ll let you know the documents required when you contact us but they could include:

Application requirements

Eligibility criteria

The following eligibility criteria applies for all business credit cards:

  • Applicants and cardholders must be 18 years or older.
  • Applicants must meet lending criteria.
  • The card must be used for business expenses only.
  • All cardholders must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

Credit history

As part of your application we may need to check your credit history and the credit history of your business. What we need to check depends on what sort of business entity you are and the type of business credit card you are applying for, so we can let you know when you contact us.

A good credit history is important because it helps to show that your business, or you, are financially responsible and able to manage your repayments. It may include previous loans, credit cards and hired equipment.

Visa Business Rewards

If you're applying for a Visa Business Rewards card, individual cardholders must earn over $28,000 per year.
