The ASB Graduate package is designed to help you to get ahead with your money, for your first two years of working. After this period, we'll move you to a Streamline account where standard rates and fees will apply.
You can switch from any bank or from your ASB Tertiary package, as long it's been less than two years since you completed your apprenticeship or graduated from an NZQA tertiary institution.

Switching bank accounts might seem a bit overwhelming but it’s never been more simple to switch to ASB! Once you apply for your chosen account, you’ll get a dedicated Personal Switcher who’ll manage everything for you.
To be eligible for the Graduate account you either need to have graduated from an NZ tertiary institution or have completed your apprenticeship. You can open a Graduate account any time up to two years after you graduate or complete your apprenticeship.
Graduates, you’ll need a copy of your qualification (Degree/Diploma) i.e. Certificate or official transcript of academic record or written confirmation from your tertiary institution confirming you have successfully completed your qualification.
Qualified apprentices, you’ll need proof of trade registration or written confirmation from your employer, ITO or tertiary institution confirming successful completion of your apprenticeship.
Existing customers, if you’ve been on an ASB Tertiary account for 3 years or more, you’ll get automatically moved to a Graduate account unless you’re still studying and want to renew your Tertiary account.
An overdraft is a loan, with an agreed limit that you can use any time, and pay off at your own pace provided that you always keep it within its agreed limit. To find out more about overdrafts, how you could get one and how to manage it, visit our Overdrafts page.
Once you’ve been on the Graduate account for 2 years, you will automatically be transferred to a Streamline account and your overdraft will incur interest at our standard unsecured overdraft interest rate. The most popular credit card with our other Graduate customers is ASB Visa Light. It’s a great choice, with a low interest rate on purchases, no account fee ever, and a special smart rate purchase feature as well.
If you want to earn True Rewards from your spending, you can go for an ASB Visa Rewards. Every dollar you spend earns you True Rewards Dollars, which you can spend at our partner stores.

The ASB Tertiary package is for students who are currently studying at any NZ tertiary institution or completing their apprenticeship. The ASB Job starter's package is specially designed for 18-20 year olds who are planning to go straight into the workforce after school, or have already started working. The ASB Graduate package is designed to give anyone who's just finished their studies or apprenticeship a helping hand in their next chapter - starting work.

After two years you will move to a standard account and standard rates and fees will apply. To apply for credit you must be 18 years or older, a NZ resident or citizen, and for an overdraft, your income must be credited to the ASB Graduate account. If eligible, the interest-free overdraft is only available for period you are eligible for a graduate account. After this standard rates will apply. A monthly overdraft facility fee of 0.12% of the limit and highest daily overdraft balance, whichever is greater (minimum charge $2) applies. No ASB Visa Rewards credit card account fee for a year. Rates and fees may change. Refer to asb.co.nz for other fees and charges. For ASB Visa Light, rates fees and more details on the Smart Rate purchase feature see asb.co.nz/light.
