How do I confirm my identity with the ASB ID app?

If you’re a new customer to ASB, we’ll need to confirm your identity and address. Our goal is to make this as easy as possible, whether this is done online or in a branch.

If you applied for a bank account online and you’ve got eligible photo ID, you can confirm your identity securely using the ASB ID app, on a supported mobile device. This includes iPhone 5s or above, with iOS 10 or above, OR an Android phone with Marshmallow 6.0 or above (Tablet not currently supported). You’ll be asked to capture a photo of your photo ID, and then take a selfie.

The details from your photo ID will be matched against the records held by trusted external providers, and your selfie will be biometrically compared to the photo on your ID. You will be sent an email when all checks are complete.

Photo ID eligible for this service:  

  • NZ driver licence.
  • NZ passport.
  • Australian passport.  

The following trusted external providers are used to verify your identity: 

Green ID Limited will automatically match your information with the applicable provider. This occurs securely in Australia and New Zealand. This is not a credit check.

In the event we cannot verify your identity using the ASB ID app, you will be contacted by an ASB staff member who will arrange an appointment for you to provide proof of ID at an available branch.
