The sector that feeds, clothes, and fuels our country
Food and fibre is more than cows and crops, it covers the full chain of activity involved in creating a product from harvesting to processing to selling. It is powered by innovation, grit, and people working together to create world-class products.
Food and fibre powers:
19% of Aotearoa's economy.
80% of our merchandised exports.
12.8% of the total workforce in Aotearoa.
When the sector prospers, all of New Zealand will feel it.
Food and fibre plays such a big part in our economy, so Aotearoa grows (and slows) with it.
Right now, the sector's facing some headwinds and challenges with productivity.
That's why we're working with the industry to come up with smart, evidence-based solutions to help turn those headwinds into tailwinds.
Our mission is simple: to back food and fibre businesses - so they can keep our economy, workforce, rural communities, and country moving forward.

Knowledge that moves the needle
'The Future Use of Land and How to Fund It' Report
We partnered with Lincoln University - leaders in agri-research - to create a report that explores the challenge facing the industry of how to meet economic, environmental and social goals and what this might mean in terms of land use in the future. The report focuses on pathways the sector can consider, and also changes that need to happen within the finance sector to fund change.
Every Hectare Matters Programme
Fueled by the insights from 'The Future Use of Land and How to Fund it' Report, ASB has created a new programme 'Every Hectare Matters'. This programme will see us support the land optimisation pathway with our balance sheet, expertise and connections. Customers will receive support via our own team of agri-specialists, external advisory to provide farm-specific guidance on land optimisation options and trade-offs, and tailored funding to support action. Reach out to us to find out more.
