With almost 14,000 entrants who will run a combined total of more than 265,000 kilometres, the 2017 ASB Auckland Marathon is gearing up to be an exciting morning for thousands. This year, more than 2,000 ASB Auckland Marathon event runners are raising money for charity. This number includes almost 700 ASB Auckland Marathon Charity Hero runners. Together, runners are hoping to raise more than $1million for local charities.

There is plenty of activity on the course to spur on runners and entertain supporters and our team will be there on the day!

On-course activations to look out for:

Blitz the bridge

We have placed a timing mat at the bottom and the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Every 30 minutes, the fastest woman and man from the bottom of the Auckland Harbour Bridge to the top will win a Fitbit Ionic. With 14 prizes up for grabs, every runner who crosses the bridge between the below times has the chance to win.

  • Pre 7.20am
  • 7.20am to 7.50am
  • 7.50am to 8.20am
  • 8.20am to 8.50am
  • 8.50am to 9.20am
  • 9.20am to 9.50am
  • 9.50am to 10.20am

ASB Japanese drummers will be located before the Auckland Harbour Bridge and again on Tamaki Drive (opposite Kelly Tarltons) to encourage runners and give that extra push of adrenalin as they approach the bridge.

Also keep an eye out for our main supporter zone, which is located at Jellicoe Street and will be filled with music and dancing, accompanied by a local DJ.

Once runners have made it to the finish line, ASB customers who raced in the ASB Auckland Marathon event will be able to relax and recover in the ASB home base at Victoria Park. Pop your ASB sticker from the Expo onto your race bib or show your ASB card at the door. We’ve got a complimentary food and drinks plus some treats from Lewis Road Creamery. There are also free massage stations to pamper your tired legs - so runners will be back to pre-race energy levels in no time.

Good luck to everyone participating in the 2017 ASB Auckland Marathon. Post your photos from the day on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter using #AucklandMarathon and we’ll look forward to seeing you at the finish line.
