Carl Gribble has been working non-stop for the last 20 years. When most of us go home to relax, Carl keeps going. On alternate days, he runs much loved (and maybe somewhat hated…) boot camp training sessions for families, and then rugby league training with the Pt Chev Pirates premiership team until 8pm. It doesn’t stop there - Carl then heads home to cook dinner for his entire family of four adults and one teenager, and this is just during the week.
In the weekends, Carl wakes up at 6:30 every Saturday to help set up the park during League season before spending his whole day at the club coaching and helping kids with a game they love. Sundays are usually Warriors’ home games, and Carl does volunteer work running the ball boys and girls squad so the games run smooth. He’s been doing this for 14 years and only missed one game! He also travels to games in Wellington, Hamilton, Rotorua, Taupo and Dunedin and pays for this himself as it’s completely voluntary.
As well as his work for the rugby league community, Carl has helped with troubled kids; taking them in and helping them reconnect with their families. He’s a hard working family man that gives up all his spare time to help others and he’s very well known in Pt Chev.
Carl’s family were worried he was working too hard, and we also think he needs a break. We surprised Carl at the Warriors’ with $10,000 to help him with his dream of taking the whole family to America for an amazing holiday this year. We hope they can recharge, and get back on the league fields with even more enthusiasm next year!
