How it works

Financial Markets Online was developed for organisations that need to closely monitor, manage and exchange foreign currencies. It's an optional module that works with FastNet Business International and is available to ASB Global Markets customers. Here's what Financial Markets Online can do:

Deal in a range of currencies

Financial Markets Online gives you access to the most commonly traded currencies.

  • Australian Dollar
  • Canadian Dollar
  • Danish Krone
  • Euro
  • Great British Pound
  • Hong Kong Dollar
  • Japanese Yen
  • New Zealand Dollar

  • Norwegian Krone
  • Singapore Dollar
  • South African Rand
  • Swedish Krona
  • Swiss Franc
  • Thai Baht
  • United States Dollar
Place foreign exchange orders

Financial Markets Online lets you create, amend and cancel your foreign exchange orders online during ASB trading hours. Online orders let you place conditional orders for most major currencies. Your contract is only booked if the exchange rate reaches your specified order parameters.

Manage currency risk

Changes in exchange rates can impact the profitability of your imports or exports. Financial Markets Online can help qualifying customers manage this risk with a forward exchange contract that allows you to exchange currencies at an agreed rate on an agreed settlement date. This way you're protected from unfavourable exchange rate movements, however you won't benefit from any favourable changes.

You can also ask to change the settlement date - like using your forward exchange contract early to make a payment. The exchange rate may change to reflect the new settlement date.

Keep up with currency pairs

Although you can access a range of foreign currencies, you may not need all of them, all the time. Financial Markets Online lets you select the currency pairs that are important to your business.

You can also set up alerts for your currency pairs. Nominate the foreign exchange rates that you want to monitor and get text or email alerts when your pre-set parameters are reached. Alerts are sent only during ASB trading hours.

Works with FastNet Business International

Financial Markets Online is designed to work in conjunction with FastNet Business International. When you're setting up international payments, you can draw on specific currency transactions or contracts you've set up in Financial Markets Online. This gives you more control of your transactions and positions.
