It's a randomly created code, a bit like a temporary PIN. You enter the code when making an online payment on FastNet Classic that will take you over a daily limit of $500.00. You can set a lower limit if you wish.
How it works
- When you request a payment on FastNet Classic that requires a Netcode, we'll send you the code and you enter it online straight away.
- You can choose to have Netcodes sent to you by TXT message on a NZ mobile phone or to a special Netcode token that we provide; or both.
- If you don't have either of these with you, and an online payment is subject to Netcode just call our contact centre on 0800 FASTNET (0800 327 863) and we'll identify you over the phone before releasing the online payment.
When Netcode is needed
Netcode is required:
- When you make a payment in FastNet Classic to someone else's account that has not been previously authenticated, see below, and the payment takes you over the daily Netcode limit. Online payments requiring Netcode are FastCheques, bill payments and automatic payments .
- When you make a international money transfer for any amount.
- When you register online for TXT banking.
Netcode is optional:
- When you login to FastNet Classic as an additional layer of security. If you're already registered for a Netcode token, you can choose to use Netcode at login by selecting this option in the 'Update Details' section of FastNet Classic.
Authenticated accounts do not require Netcode.
- If a staff member has loaded an automatic payment or bill payment for you, after identifying you either over the phone or in an ASB branch, then that account number is authenticated and will not need a Netcode.
- You can choose to save your payees as Netcode authenticated when you set them up in FastNet Classic.
- Companies on our pre-registered list, such as Telecom, have already been checked by us do not require Netcode.
Netcode at sign on
- When you login to FastNet Classic you can choose to have Netcode as an additional layer of security. You can choose to use Netcode at sign on by selecting this option in the 'Update Details' section of FastNet Classic.
- While Netcode at sign on is optional, we recommend you use this service when you access FastNet Classic while you're away from holiday, where you cannot be assured the PC you're using has the latest security patches and anti-virus software. You should always change your FastNet Access Password before turning Netcode at sign on off again when you return from your holiday.
Stopping Netcode
- You can choose to deregister from Netcode by replying STOP to any Netcode TXT message. Standard mobile charges may apply.
- If you choose to deregister from Netcode and you exceed the Netcode daily limit of $500 on any Netcode authenticated online payment (bill payment, Fast Cheque or automatic payment) you will need to call our contact centre on 0800 FASTNET (0800 327 863) and we'll identify you over the phone before releasing the payment.
What it costs
- No charge to register for the Netcode service.
- $0.20 each time you enter a Netcode, or ask our call centre to release a Netcode payment. You only enter the code once per FastNet Classic session.
- $1.00 per month if you choose to have a Netcode token, regardless of how many Netcodes you use, rather than only receive your codes by TXT message.
- $20.00 to replace a lost token.
Fees are subject to change.

Through the 'update details' section of FastNet Classic you can:
- Set yourself a lower daily Netcode limit, to a minimum of just $1.00.
