Earthquake special assistance package

We understand this is a difficult time for many of our customers while they are dealing with the different impacts the November 14 earthquake has had on their lives.

To relieve your immediate financial concerns ASB has a special emergency relief package to help.

Further financial assistance options will be put in place to help with the rebuilding process.

Personal banking customers
Personal banking customers affected by the earthquake can call our earthquake helpline on 0800 272 007 between 8am - 8pm to talk to us about any of the following:

  • access to emergency funds with a 90‐day overdraft facility for ASB personal customers at a special variable rate and no establishment fee. Note the Monthly Overdraft Facility Fee will still apply.
  • the option to suspend home loan payments for up to 3 months (interest will still be added to the loan).
  • no Early Repayment Adjustment when repaying home loan on a fixed interest rate, where a home is destroyed or suffered major damage as a result of the earthquake.
  • no Home Loan processing or top-up fees when needing to establish or restructure a home loan as a result of the earthquake.
  • support for customers working with IAG on claims over and above the Earthquake Commission cover.
  • immediate consideration of requests for emergency credit limit increases.

Business and Rural banking customers
Business and rural customers affected by the earthquake can call our earthquake helpline on 0800 272 007 between 8am to 8pm to talk to us about the following:

  • access to working capital at a special variable rate. Customers will not be charged Establishment or Service Commitment Fees
  • no Early Repayment Adjustment if repaying a business or rural loan, where the business is destroyed or has suffered major damage as a result of the earthquake.

Insurance claims
To make an insurance claim, please contact EQC in the first instance on 0800 326 243 (0800 DAMAGE) or you can lodge a claim online via the EQC online claim form. If you would like to talk with an ASB Insurance agent, please call 0800 200 242.

Queensgate Mall Branch

As we work towards reopening a full service branch in Lower Hutt, the following temporary banking service have been made available.

ASB Queensgate pop-up Branch:

A pop-up branch has been installed on the ground floor of the Queensgate Mall next door to Acquisitions. The pop-up branch has a FastDeposit drop box and our staff can assist customers with banking queries, but at this time we are unable able to assist with cash and cheque transactions.

The pop-up branch opening hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 9:00am-4:30pm
Thursday: 9:00am-7:00pm
Sunday: 10:00am-4:00pm

ASB Queensgate Mall ATM:

A new ASB ATM has also been installed and is operating in the food court on level one of Queensgate mall.

We thank you for your patience. Alternative ATMs and branches are in Johnsonville and Upper Hutt. There are also ATMs at the Petone Workingmans Club, Pak N Save Petone and in Naenae or you can locate your nearest branch.

Red Cross Emergency Appeal
Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal to support local communities affected by the earthquakes.

Donations should be directed to bank account number 12-3192-0015998-00 (Reference: SP132, Code: 2016EQ) or www.redcross.org.nz/donate/

Donations will help Red Cross respond and to support affected communities.
