NZ Cash Fund

The NZ Cash Fund might be a good choice if protecting your savings is more important than having the possibility of generating higher returns.

Benefits at a glance

  • Invests in a portfolio of investment grade short term deposits and fixed interest investments with New Zealand registered banks
  • A maximum tax rate of 28% applies
  • Not typically subject to the same fluctuations in value as higher risk funds
  • The ASB KiwiSaver Scheme’s lowest risk fund
CANSTAR 2016 - NZ Cash Fund

Our NZ Cash Fund was awarded five stars for 'outstanding value' by independent ratings agency Canstar in 2016. This award recognises scheme features, as well as fund performance and low fees, giving you more money to enjoy in retirement.

Is it right for me?

The NZ Cash Fund could suit you if:

  • You have no minimum investment timeframe.
  • Protecting your savings is your biggest priority.
  • You understand choosing a lower risk fund may result in low potential returns and your savings growth may not keep up with inflation.

Sam, 63, has decided he’ll definitely retire at 65 so he can spend more time with his wife. Apart from owning their home, the couple has few assets and Sam knows he’ll use his KiwiSaver savings immediately to top up his NZ Super.

Given the short investment timeframe, Sam has chosen to keep his money in the NZ Cash Fund because of its low-risk profile.

Sam’s priority is to protect his savings from the bigger ups and downs associated with higher risk funds. With this in mind, he accepts that the returns on his investment may not be as high or outpace inflation.
