How do I cash a cheque?
Last Updated: 18 Mar 2020
- Ensure the cheque has not been crossed. Cheques that have been crossed must be paid into a bank account and cannot be cashed. For more information see What is a crossing on a cheque?
- You will need to present your ID in order to cash a cheque.
- Any alterations made to a cheque must be accompanied by the full signature of the authorised signatory/signatories for that account.
- Cheques dated with a future date will not be accepted. If your cheque has a future date, present this for deposit on or after that date.
- Cheques presented six months or more after the date it was drawn ‘dated’ will not be accepted as these cheques are stale.
