What if I’ve been an eligible KiwiSaver member for only part of the annual Government contribution year (1 July - 30 June)?

Last Updated: 29 Nov 2016

If you joined KiwiSaver for the first time, turned 18, returned to New Zealand, or became eligible for a retirement withdrawal part-way through the year, you’re entitled to an annual Government contribution for the part of the year that you were eligible, as long as you have been making contributions.

For example, if you joined KiwiSaver on 1 January and you contributed at least $521.44 before 30 June, you’ll get an annual Government contribution of around $260.72. This is because you were eligible for six months (half of the annual Government contribution year), not the full year.
