The great thing about KiwiSaver is as well as the Government and employer contributions you may receive, there are on-going benefits and features to suit different life stages. This section will explain how each of the main benefits and features work.
Member Tax Credits
If you mainly live in New Zealand and are contributing to KiwiSaver, every year from age 18 until when you can take out your end KiwiSaver retirement savings, the Government will contribute member tax credits up to $521.43 each year. Find out how to make sure you maximise the amount you are eligible for.
First home buyers
KiwiSaver has two benefits to help first home buyers (and second-chance home buyers), both of which become available to apply for three years after your first contribution to KiwiSaver. You can apply to withdraw all of your and your employer contributions for a first home. Plus you may be eligible for a first home deposit subsidy of $1,000 per year of saving, up to a maximum of $5,000. Find out if you could be eligible.
Early withdrawals
In most circumstances you are unable to withdraw your KiwiSaver savings until the later of when you become eligible for NZ Superannuation or have been in KiwiSaver for five years. However, there are a few exceptions which may allow you to withdraw some or all of your KiwiSaver savings early, including significant financial hardship, serious illness or if you permanently emigrate.
