Coastguard NZ
ASB believes in partnering with organisations that make our communities a safer place. We live in a country surrounded by ocean, so it’s great to know our community partner Coastguard NZ are dedicated to saving lives at sea. They provide marine search and rescue services to New Zealand 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
On the water, anything can go wrong in a very short period of time. The types of search and rescue incidents Coastguard NZ deal with vary widely - from assisting people whose boat won't start, to man over board, to hitting a submerged object or attending to a medical emergency. The brave professional volunteers are ready to respond to distress calls across the country.
Coastguard NZ rely heavily on donations and local community support to keep operating. There are many ways you can show your support and help Coastguard keep New Zealand safe on the water. Train to be a Coastguard volunteer, donate to Coastguard, or make sure you follow the Coastguard rules at sea and stay safe on the water.
GetWise - financial literacy for kids
We know that good habits start at an early age. That's why we’re committed to making sure the next generation learn about managing their money with GetWise. It’s an educational programme in primary schools and it’s part of our wider commitment to the Kiwi community. The programme is fun and interactive for kids and delivered by independently trained facilitators working with students in the school classroom. And the best part? GetWise is free to any primary school, all they have to do is register. To find out more or sign up, visit www.getwise.co.nz.
St John Everyday Heroes are people just like you.
ASB is working together with St John to build caring communities and ultimately save more lives. This partnership is designed to deliver real, tangible benefits to communities.
One of the ways we help is by giving more people the tools to help save lives in their community, through first aid and CPR courses. St John have also developed the Everyday Hero website where any Kiwi can take an online course to find out how much they know when faced with an emergency, and what basic first aid steps they should be aware of. Check out the course at www.everydayhero.org.nz, and while you’re there, book in for a first aid course through St John too.
School Banking teaches kids to save.
ASB believes the younger we can help kids learn to save, the better off they’ll be in the future. Our School Banking programme aims to do just that. Any schools that bank with ASB can register for the programme, and receive all the information and equipment they’ll need for their students to save money every week. Students will see their savings build up in their very own Headstart account, helping keep them enthusiastic and motivated to continue saving.
By working with local schools from all over the country, ASB hopes to teach the next generation of Kiwis to be even better savers. Primary schools and parents or caregivers can find out more information about School Banking here.
Headstart product terms, Personal Banking Terms and Conditions and service charges apply and are available together with ASB Bank Limited’s current Disclosure Statement free of charge from any ASB branch.

Starship Foundation makes miracles happen every day.
The Starship Foundation is a charity set up to give Starship Children's Hospital additional equipment, support and help to patients, their families and staff. ASB is proud to have been a Five Star Sponsor of the Starship Foundation since day one.
As one of the country’s most recognised icons, Starship treats close to 150,000 young patients each year from every town and city in New Zealand.
Here’s how you can help right now. Starship’s Mobile Phone Appeal can turn your technological trash into cash for life-saving services and equipment at Starship.
If you’ve got a mobile phone sitting around gathering dust, do your bit to help by donating it to Starship. It could mean the world of difference to a child’s life. Drop your phone into any ASB branch or find out how to help at www.starship.org.nz
