The ASB Tertiary Banking Package won't do your assignments or apprenticeship for you, but it could make life easier in other ways. It aims to make money go further at a time in your life when every dollar counts.

What does the package include?

  • A Tertiary bank account with no base, EFTPOS or ASB ATM fees and no electronic or manual transaction fees (service charges apply).
  • Unlimited access to phone banking and FastNet Classic.
  • A $1,000 interest-free overdraft in your first year of study or apprenticeship, with the option to increase to $2,000 after completing one year of study or apprenticeship.
  • A Visa Debit card with the card fee waived for the first two years.
  • No account fees for the first 12 months on an ASB Credit card (excluding Low Interest MasterCard).*
  • Personal loans at special interest rates.
  • Mobile banking services including a mobile website, Internet banking for your smartphone and mobile top ups directly from your account.

For as long as you're a student or apprentice

The account can be set up to last the length of your qualification or apprenticeship (up to three years). If your qualification or apprenticeship takes longer, we'll contact you as three years approaches and help you to renew your account for the remainder of the time. Or just call into any ASB branch with two forms of ID (one form must be photo ID) and proof that you're still a student or apprentice (see How to apply for more details).

Do you qualify?

To apply for the ASB Tertiary Banking Package you need to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and either:

  • A full or part-time student studying for a minimum of one semester at an NZQA tertiary institution and not working more than 30 hours a week, or
  • An apprentice (working any number of hours per week).

*You must be 18 years of age or over to apply for credit facilities.

If you are an international student you may be eligble for an ASB International Student Banking package.

After graduation

When you graduate, you can move up to our Graduate Package which has benefits that will be relevant as you start your career.
